Day One

On the first day of our engineering lab, we were first introduced the the team of three from MIT media labs, Stefan, Hannah, and Matt. We were introduced to the prompt, and we’re shown examples of what previous inventions regarding the same field have been made to get an idea of what we should come [...]

Group 1

Day Four

ON the fourth day, which was wednesday, the team met with Stefan, Matt, and Hannah, to talk about our concept and how we can build it. We also talked about how a shirt would not be practical so we changed the idea of the shirt to a dog tag, which we thought was small, simple, [...]

Group 6 – The Beginning: Days 1-3

This is the very first post of Group 6 in the Engineering Foundations: Design and Innovation Superlab 2011 event. Our goal was to design, develop and demonstrate a product that provides a solution to a certain type of problem related to a kind of long-distance relationship. The team consisted of the fllowing members: Songyshu (Cici) [...]

Group 1

Day Three

Day three started with all groups presenting their concept ideas for their project. Our group came up with the idea of having a contractable shirt to be worn under the soldier’s uniform, and a customizable device which the family will carry. Communication between these who objects is very simple, we have deliberately chosen something which [...]

T- 3 Hours: FINALIZING

After a weeks worth of hard/fun work, we got everything ready!

Group 7

Day 6

Today we started off by linking the strip to the Arduino and testing the program. Unfortunately, there was some technical problems, which we later figured out to be short-circuiting. We were expected to get the working prototype ready for the practice presentations, however, this was not the case. Nevertheless, we presented without a working model. [...]

Group 7

Day 5

So today we started working on actually building the product. Our first step was to draw out the lines on the cloth material, representing the ciruit wire that would me made with conducting wire. This was a very tough job as the cloth we cut out was of very small width as a result of [...]

Group 7

Day 4

Our work today was divided into two parts. One involved going to the CSE to get the materials needed cut with the Laser Cutter, whereas the second one involved creating the circuit and the program that we would use for our product. At CSE, three types of cloth – foam, and two types of non-conductive [...]

Group 5: Day 7 – P & P, a.k.a Prototype & Presentation!

After assuring ourself that the construction of the balloon-and-string output is strong enough to hold the rotation of the motors, we finalized everything: programming, graphing using Processing, actual human testing, and giving a practice presentation. When we tested our device on Stefan, one of our instructors, we were able to see the graph going down, [...]

Grupo tres!

2 hours later… We pretty much have a specific relationship target group! (Unfortunately we cannot find the photo of our brainstorm… But we brainstormed ideas across two whiteboards!) Day 2: We narrowed our customer definition and we decided on a concept. We also experimented in class with conductive threads to work with different pressure sensors. We managed [...]

Group 4

Day 6

We are done with finalizing our shoes. At the moment we are working on the T- shirt. Hopefully it will  not take more than an hour afterwards. We are so delighted to see our product in its very final stages. Our product will enable any fan experience what the player does in front of tens [...]

Day 6

Woke up early morning and started working at 9 o’clock. keep going tell lunch time then get back to work. Mick was making some points to put them in the presentation. Meadot was sewing the lilypad with a piece of a cloth and make a connection between the four shoes. We have tried it on a baby, but [...]

Group 5 – Day 5 – The CSE Tour

During the fifth day, two of us went to CSE and laser printed the sketches we drew the day before. There were some details on the sketch that we changed on purpose, such that the design could be more compact and easier to cut.

Group 2

Pseudo-code to indicate Baby’s first success in first walk

We were thinking about programming the shoes to light up when they reach certain number of steps. That would be the baby’s success in its first walk. Hannah suggested us to have a rough idea in our own language of what the programming would do – pseudocode. It went like this. Firmstep = sensor value [...]

Group 4

Day 5

The main purpose of our project is to make passionate football fans experience the maximum satisfaction possible from watching games!

Group 7

Day 3

Our third day was primarily spent coming up with a good design for our product. We made a rough sketch of how the product would look like along with its measurements. We decided to go with a particular kind of shape that would allow flexiblity.

Group 2

Day 5

The products of prisoners was really complicated so we turned back to our first client (parents and babies) and we came up with a product that will make the parents feel close to their babies while they are out at work. The product consists of 4 shoes, two worn by the baby and the other [...]

Group 2

Day 4

We  had a meeting with the instructors to discuss about our product and see our progress. We met for half an hour only and we tried to make our product looks easy and workable. We did a brainstorming for another half an hour then and we gave out some ideas about what are we going to do [...]

Day 3

We started the day by giving a presentation about our product. Our product is a kissing photo intended to be for the prisoners who miss their families. Each one of us took a part of the talk and then we tried some of the questions that were asked by the audience. We faced so many problems [...]

Group 4

Day 5 / Group 4

We have made a considerable progress in bringing our product to life. We have seen that the vibrations could be felt at different areas of the shoes. It would enable the fan experience what the player actually does. For instance if the player kicks the ball with the front part of his feet then the [...]

Group 2

Day 1

Before going to the lab, the class was divided into 7 groups. Each group contains 3 people working together. There was a box on each table containing the tools we  need for our work. We firstly learned how to make a simple circuit by connecting a battery to  a light bulb. We noticed that there [...]
